I didn't ask about your boyfriend
Not too long ago, I reconnected with someone from my past and I asked them how they were doing. The first thing he said was that he was good. His second sentence started with "My boyfriend and I..."
Ummm, I didn't ask about your boyfriend, I asked about you. And, if you can't disassociate yourself from your boyfriend, then you've got problems. They think "I was only half a person until I met him/her." Really? So, all of those years you were single, you weren't complete? There was nothing to live for? You had no accomplishments by yourself? Everything revolves around coupledom? For some people, you can't have one without the other.
I know people who have been together/married for decades and never mention their partner/spouse in their first couple of sentences upon a meet and greet. Fuck, I've been embroiled in a conversation for ten minutes only to discover they've become a recent widow/widower. Now, that's disassociating.
Whatever. Enjoy your symbiotic relationship. Me and the wife are doing great, thanks for asking.
