A disappointing wait
There are some people who are worth waiting for, and others who you don’t know about their worth until you meet them. After more than a year, S and I get to meet after a series of false starts. My expectations are high, if only because it’s finally happening.
When I get to Starbucks, I see he isn’t there. I wait for about 10 minutes before I pull out my phone and write a text asking where he is.
It isn’t too long before I get a response from S.
Umm did you actually think i’d go? I don’t even know who this is. And I didn’t say yes
The second I finish reading it, I’m angry. What sort of fool am I to fall for this again? This has happened how many times before? Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
With the phone still in my hand, I write that we talked about it a couple of days back. I begin to make my way home and there’s a message.
Where you at btw?
I say I left and that next time he should make sure his girlfriend lets him out of the house.
Lol. Gf? Where you at? I was just being a dick lol. I don’t see any boys with toques here
Immediately, there’s another message from S.
Where you at?
I say I’m almost at home and that I’m not a kid and I don’t play games.
Ha ha you serious? I was just playing. I was at dundas and church when you sent it. I’m always late
Home is a couple of minutes away. In fact, I’m almost at the door to my building.
Lol. Where? I’m on church. There were no seats and it was a sauna in there
And it’s with this that I think I should go back just to see if S is there. It’s only a two-minute walk down the street. If S isn’t there, then I wash my hands of this for good.
While walking down Church Street, I see him. He’s standing outside of the Indian restaurant which is a couple of doors down from Starbucks.
“So, is it a sauna in there...?” I ask as I approach S.

The rest of the day is spent with S talking and me listening. Who knew guys liked to talk so much? Clearly, he enjoys listening to the sound of his own voice. And because he knows he’s smart and good looking, he thinks he can get away with it. That is, with others. Me? Not so much.
As our time comes to an end, I realize there’s probably many reasons why he’s single. Most of them are because he thinks he’s better than most of the guys out there and deserves the best. That’s not a problem if you're a 10, but if you're really a 7.5 and think you're a 12, then it is.
And all of this took a disappointing wait of almost two years to find out.

oy!! sorry you had a crappy meeting! that first text really got under my skin!! I mean, it would put me off completely! good riddens!
Yeah, that first text would have triggered me to respond with only 2 words. Sorry it didn't turn out as you'd hoped. xoxo
I didn't wait 2 years, but the last guy I met was like that too. Likes to play games and call people out on shit they didn't do. Total prick.
